It was a cold night. Rain silently fell through the air as thunder roared through the Toronto cityscape. Leo stood on the sidewalk, watching the rain. He was intrigued by it, and tried to see if there was a difference between each drop. But it was too quick for him to handle. Each drop gracefully fell through the air, and would eventualy part with the ground. Such a beautiful sight it was to him. He was comepletely mesmerised by it.
He awoke from his short observation. He only now just noticed how hard it was raining. He tightened his scarf, and slowly paced across the street. A sudden clap of thunder made him move faster. He read through the street adresses. His house was red, like just about every other house on his street. This would sometimes confuse him. He finally found his adress, 4913.
He walked up the steps, pulling his key out of his jean pocket. He inserted the key into its hole, and playfully slid it back and forth in its socket, trying to imitate orgasm. He stopped this, and turned the key. He pulled the door open, and continued on in. He closed the door, and took his hat off. He placed it on the coat hanger next to the entrance. He felt a chill run past his neck, and decided to keep his scarf on. He raised his arm to light switch, but was stopped by a creaking sound. It seemed to have came from his bedroom. Hesitantly, he silently shuffled towards the sound.
He hid on the wall next to the bedroom door, much like Solid Snake. He slowly put his hand on the doornob, and turned it fearfully. Through the crack of the door, he saw a pink figure on the side of his bed. "Hey, sup?" muttered the figure. Leo sighed and opened the door. "What the hell are you doing here?" he said annoyed. The pink furred figure was Aeris, who was playing a game on his T.V.
"You know damn well why I'm here. I told you my 360 is broken, and asked if I could play on yours. And you said yes." she growled.
Leo smirked, now remembering the situation. "Well, you could have told me you were in here..."
Aeris did not turn away from the T.V."I thought you knew I was here. Were were you anyway?"
Leo came in and sat on the edge of his bed. "Hanging out with a friend. Hey, pause it, I wanna see the weather."
Aeris grumbled, and did as instructed. Leo turned the channel to The Local Weather Broadcasting Station. The T.V. buzzed with the techno/jazz music the station would play. The weatherman was saying something in his stupid, overly optimistic voice. "
We would wish of it that all of you folks stay inside, as we are undergoing one of the largest rainstorms in 10 years. The storm crept up from Georgia, to New York, and all the way to us. We have been told we will get hit the worst. . Until then, Stay indoors, I repeat, STAY INDOORS. This is John Turner with your Emergeny Weather Report. Stacey, back to you.".
Leo grumbled. "Gettin' tired of this goddamned rain. Didn't rain nearly as much last year."
"Yeah well...Oh fuck" She muttered. "Its 11 fucking a.m. I should get going."
She turned off the Xbox and took her harddrive off of it. She put in her pocket, and stood up, zipping her jacket up. "You got a ride?" Leo asked.
"Nope." she said annoyed. "That bastard friend of mine chickened out, said she had other stuff to do."
She walked to the door, and Leo followed. She put her hand on the knob. "Thanks for lettin' me use your Three Six..." She opened the door and was silenced by the sight. Rain had poured so hard that It slid down the roof and down over the front entrance. She could not see past the pouring water it rained so hard. "..ty..."
"Well...this will not be pleasant..." she said, tightening her gloves.
Leo scratched his head."Yeah...doesn't look like its gonna clear up for a while...Ya' know, you could um, stay here until it does..." Leo said sheepishly.
Aeris quickly turned around. She had a surprised look on her face. "Wh-What?!" she said in a loud tone.
"I said you can stay here. Did I say something wrong...?" He said confused.
She sighed. "No...No, everything is fine...but where will I sleep?"she asked.
Leo knew why she reacted the way she did. But he said nothing so he wouldn't embarass her. He paused for a few moments. "Um...follow me." he said, and walked into his bedroom. Aeris reluctantly followed.
Leo went into the bedroom. He pointed at his bed. "You can sleep in my bed."
"Umm...but that's your bed...I don't want to be a burdon." she said shyly.
"No, no, its okay. I got it all covered." He went over to his closet and opened it. He pulled a matress out and put it in a corner near an electric slot. He then went back to the closet, and pulled some sheets off of the top shelf. He threw them on his bed as if it were trash. He picked up a book off of the floor inside the closet. He sat on the mattress, book in hand. "See. Everything's fine." he said, smile on his face.
Aeris sat on the side of the bed. "I guess...this sure is awfully nice of you..." she said, getting under the covers.
"Feh, not a problem." he said as he also laid down. He opened the book and began reading. Aeris laid in her bed, watching him.
"So, whatchya' got there?" she asked.
Leo looked up from his book. "What this? It's The Writings of Edgar Allen Poe. Sumthin' I sometimes read before I go to sleep."
Aeris smiled. "Huh, I can't believe you've even heard of the guy."
"Heard of em'? I fucking love the guy." Leo said.
"Hmm, whenever I see you read, your reading one one of those comic books." she said.
"It's called agraphic novel. They are two completely different things." Leo said annoyed.
"Yeah, but both have one thing in common...they both suck." Aeris said teasingly.
Leo pointed his finger at her. "Hey you shuttup, Alan Moore is a fucking legend at writing."
"Yeah Leo." Aeris said "Whatever you say."
"Hmph" Leo muttered, as he went back to his book.
Aeris sat there, still staring at him. "So...what else you got to read?"
Leo looked up once again. "Well now..." he said as he stood. He went over to his closet, still opened, and pulled out a bin. He brought it over to the bed. "See for yourself." he said smiling.
She searched through the bin, picking out books to read the cover title. Lets see... she thoght. We got Watchmen, Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon, Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2: Ghost, a Elder Scrolls: Oblivion guide, and... she thought.
She saw a book with a plain back cover, with a line drawn across it. She pulled it out and read the cover. "The Missing Piece", by Shel Silverstein... it said. "Hey Leo whats this?"
The book had a Pac-Man like looking thing on the cover. Leo took the book out of her hand. "This? Oh some childhood book I used to like."
"What's it about?" Aeris asked.
Leo smirked at the fact she couldn't read a book that he could read in less than 10 minutes. "Well, theres this thing that was missing a piece of it. This made it sad, right, so it goes off in search of it's missing piece. It travels through all sorts of bad weather and crap. So he finds a lot of pieces, but none of em' fit. Then one day it found a fitting peice. But thing is, they didn't get along, so it left the piece, an' it found out it was better off alone."he said smartly.
"Hmm, interesting. Reminds me of a love story. Loner goes out on a search to find the perfect soul mate, but finds out that they are best single."she said.
"Yeah, you got a good imagination, Aeris." Leo said with a smile.
Aeris smiled as well. Leo put the book on the end table, and took the bin and put it back in the closet. "Should read it sometime. It's surprisingly good."
He went over to the end table and turned on the lamp. He continued to the light switch and turned the lights off. "Just turn the lamp off when your ready to go to bed." he said as he got back on his mattress.
"Okay" she said. She paused for a few moments, looking out into space. "Hey Le..." she said, but she was interrupted by a small snore. Leo was fast asleep.
She looked at the book on the end table. She took it and observed the cover again. The Missing Piece... she thought. She opened the book and flipped through the pages. The Pac-Man creature had yellow crudely colored in it. She presumed Leo did it at a young age. She found a page that caught her interest with quotation marks.
"Oh, I'm lookin' for my missin' piece
I'm lookin' for my missin' piece
Hi-dee-ho, here I go,
Lookin' for my missin' peice."
She smiled, and closed the book. She put the book back on the end table, and turned off the lamp. She rolled over and smiled.
Oh Leo... she thought. She then closed her eyes to sleep.
